The Price is WRONG! Marketing today doesn’t have to cost you bundles…

Thank you ActiveRain for getting my brain spinning in the RIGHT direction with “The Price is Right: $500 Real Estate Marketing and Tech Challenge”… 

BUT I think “The Price is WRONG” LOL – Marketing in today’s marketplace does not have to be expensive…

Here is what I would do…

  • Would you spend more on traditional media like direct mail and newspaper ads? NO
  • Are you going to pay someone to do it for you? NO – I like to do everything myself – sort of a perfectionist.
  • What are the tools you can’t live without in your business?  IDX website, ActiveRain? ActiveRain ($39/Month), my Number1Expert website (www.NickyDou.com) ($250/month), Facebook (free), Animoto Pro ($299/year), Picasa for editing my photos of listings (FREE), Twitter (free), Realtor.com enhanced listings (FREE through my company), YouTube (free), STAGING (free, I do it myself), unlimited Texting system ($19/month (signs a one time fee”), LinkedIn (free), WORD OF MOUTH (free), Referrals (free), Email Systems (part of my “Homecaster System from Number1Expert” – part of the $250/month fee) – additional EMAIL (free)… A LOT of what I do is FREE – it just takes time and creativity to do it… and a PASSION for doing it right. 
That puts my current marketing budget right around $330. With my additional $167, I would get really creative with “farming neighborhoods” – utilizing postcards created online with my own graphics, artwork, etc. to allow the people within the community to “get to know me better” along with great info for them regarding stats/comps within their neighborhood. I might also subscribe to a snail mail newsletter system to send out to past clients/neighborhoods I am a strong player in (again with customized graphics, etc.). 

IF I were to use $500 in addition to what I am already doing – I would most likely do a large event with past clients twice a year to show my appreciation with the additional money.

Marketing does NOT have to be expensive with the technology we have in today’s marketplace as long as you are smart and passionate about doing it! 
  • Is it better to pay for online leads or to spend the time generating them yourself? I have done both – but feel very strongly that generating them myself works best. When I get “out there” as an expert such as writing a blog post regarding a community or event or even just my area – people come to me – it is not a cold lead like what you get through an online lead source. People do business with people – by utiliting technology to get people to come to you – you in turn get great leads… people who are like-minded and WANT to work with you. I have never made a cold call in my life. I am very fortunate to have the right systems fall into place in my life – with a little “luck” and a lot of “smarts” in finding the right systems – ActiveRain being one of the largest players in my success! 
  • What training or coaching programs would you subscribe to? – ActiveRain teaches me plenty – there is a plethera of training through ActiveRain that I would not pay for additional training/coaching unless it were maybe Ben Kinney’s IMSD program or attending another RAINCAMP…
